A simplistically coloured Feature Article, the layout is
simple and easy to read with everything spaced out equally. The fonts are
mainly the same, professional and easy on the eye, with a mixture of boldness
and size for each part of the Article. The Title is large and eye-catching, its
not overly complicated and its clear to spot the kicker section as its bolder
and a little bit bigger font sized compared to the rest of the Article, but
compared to some Articles this doesn’t have a Drop Cap which is probably not
necessary anyway. Columns for the text/font go along the page, so when reading
the paragraphs the text goes down but the start of the next part is always
beside it on the right hand side, commonly the way Articles lay out the body
texts – The gutters being what splits the paragraphs and sections up aswell.
Information of what else is in the magazine is on the bottom, it’s not as
noticeable because of the positioning but its font is bold so it stands out a
little better as it is advertising what else is in the magazine as there is no
other advertisement on the feature article. The photo covers a quarter of the
article, a good size for this type of page as it not only relates to who and
what the article is about but it’s a reasonable amount of space that is covered
so the article doesn’t need to have too much text as this could lose the
audience interest. Furthermore, the balance of this Feature Article is well
designed, overall it involves everything a Feature Article needs but it isn’t
over the top with the font and colours especially. Although, some would say
that this is plain, Feature Articles don’t always need to be covered in images,
vibrant colours and lots of advertisements as just like this example it could
be the main article that is featured that builds up the magazine from the
beginning as the feature article.
